AI chatbot for local businesses

An AI chatbot that answers the way you would.

It reads your own documents and answers your customers’ questions in plain English, day and night. When it cannot answer, it takes their details and emails you the whole conversation.

Live on this page. Ask it anything about NanoPorter.

The businesses in the examples on this site are fictional. Real numbers and details belong to our clients, and we do not publish them.

What “AI” means here

Not a menu. Not a script. It reads, it understands and it answers.

Most website chatbots follow a list of predefined questions and answers. Ours reads your documents, knows your business and understands what your visitor is asking.

A scripted chatbot

  • Follows a menu. Ask it something it was not built for and it either refuses to answer or gives an unrelated response.
  • Knows only the answers somebody typed into it.
  • Says “Sorry, I didn’t understand that” and leaves the customer to ring.
  • Sounds like a robot.
  • Tells you nothing about what your visitors asked.

An AI chatbot

  • Understands the question however it is phrased, and answers in full sentences.
  • Answers from your own documents: your prices, your hours, your policies, in your words.
  • Says when it does not know, and takes their name and contact details so you can follow up.
  • You define its persona, warm and welcoming, cheeky and fun, or more formal, you decide.
  • Emails you every enquiry with the conversation attached, and a Weekly Review of your chatbot.

And it still will not guess. If the answer is not in your documents, it says so.

Three voices

The same product. Three businesses that sound nothing alike.

Three businesses in the made-up village of Nethercote, a holiday cottage, a pub and a dental practice, each with its own AI chatbot. The same four questions, put to all three. The businesses are made up. The answers are actual outputs from real configured assistants.

The last one is different for each business on purpose. What an assistant should refuse to answer is not the same in a pub as it is in a dental practice, and it is the part you set.

Two Elms Cottage

Personality: warm, and anticipates the next question.

You
What time are you open?
Two Elms Cottage

Check-in is from 4pm and we ask you to head off by 10am on your last day. Arriving late is absolutely fine, the key safe works whatever the hour, and I will send you the code the day before. If you want to drop bags earlier on the day, just ask, we can usually sort it.

You
How much is it?
Two Elms Cottage

It changes with the season and the length of stay, so I will not guess at it. A short break in November is a very different number from a week in August. Tell me your dates and how many of you there are and I will give you the actual price rather than a range.

You
Can I bring my dog?
Two Elms Cottage

Yes, up to two dogs, £25 each for the stay. There is a secure garden, a towel rail in the boot room for the muddy ones, and a lead hook by the door. We just ask they stay off the beds, and there is a good walk from the gate that does not touch a road.

You
The boiler has stopped working.
Two Elms Cottage

That needs a person and it needs one now, not in the morning. I am passing this straight to Sarah with your name and number, and her mobile is 01632 960 144 if you would rather ring while you wait. Do not try to reset it yourself, the manual is in the drawer but she would rather come out.

The Tipsy Ferret

Personality: cheeky and quick.

The Tipsy Ferret

You
What time are you open?
The Tipsy Ferret

Doors open at midday, every day. The kitchen stops at 9, the bar does not. Sunday roast runs 12 to 4, or until it sells out, which it usually does, so do not be the person who turns up at 3:45.

You
How much is it?
The Tipsy Ferret

Depends what you are after. Sunday roast is £16.95 and worth every penny. Mains are mostly £13 to £18 and the full menu is on the site. Pints, I am afraid, are subject to Donna's mood and the price of barley.

You
Can I bring my dog?
The Tipsy Ferret

You would be the odd one out without one. Dogs are welcome everywhere including the bar, there are water bowls dotted about, and there is a dog menu, which is a sausage or a couple of biscuits. Bring the muddy boots while you are at it, nobody minds.

You
I want to book the back room for forty people, it is for a wake.
The Tipsy Ferret

I am going to hand this to Donna rather than take it myself. The Burrow seats twenty, so forty needs a conversation about how to do it properly, and for something like this she will want to speak to you herself. Can I take your name and a number for her?

Nethercote Dental

Personality: formal, precise, and visibly refuses to advise.

You
What time are you open?
Nethercote Dental

The practice is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We are closed at weekends and on bank holidays.

You
How much is it?
Nethercote Dental

A new patient examination is £65, which includes any X-rays we need on the day. Beyond that it depends on what the dentist finds, so I am not able to quote for treatment. You will always be given a written treatment plan with costs before anything is agreed, and nothing goes ahead until you have said yes to it.

You
Can I bring my dog?
Nethercote Dental

Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the practice. Other pets we are not able to accommodate, as the treatment rooms are a clinical environment. If that makes an appointment difficult for you, please ring us and we will find a way round it.

You
My tooth is really hurting, what should I do?
Nethercote Dental

I am not able to give advice about a dental problem, and I would not want to guess with something painful.

If it is an emergency, please call 999.

Otherwise you have two options. You can ring the practice on 01926 960 200, open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Or give me your details and I will get one of the team to contact you.

If it is outside our hours and cannot wait until we open, NHS 111 can advise on urgent dental care.

What you get

Every enquiry, with the conversation attached.

Know what your customer wants before you call them back. The name, the number, what they asked and what they were told, in your inbox.

And every week, a Weekly Review: what people asked, and what that tells you about your customers. How much detail it carries depends on your tier.

The business here is made up. Real numbers belong to the client who earned them, and we do not publish those.

Four steps, and who does each one.

They are your documents, in your own folder. You change them whenever you like and your assistant updates to the latest data.

Your first documents are drafted from your website for you, at every tier, as part of setup.* You still review and approve them: they are yours.

01

We read your website and draft your first documents.

You check them, reword what you like, and approve them. Nothing is used without your approval.

02

We build it, and you try it on a private link.

Nothing goes near your website until you have approved it.

03

A single HTML line of code goes on your website.

That is the whole installation.

04

It starts answering questions right away.

It captures leads and emails you every enquiry with the full conversation attached.

Dates and closures

Your assistant keeps a diary.

Invite it to an event the way you would invite a colleague. A day you are closed, a day you are open when you would not normally be, a function that takes over the whole place.

It answers from the calendar as well as from your documents, so what a visitor is told is what you have in the diary.

Pick a look

It wears your colours, not ours.

Six sample chatbots, so you can see how it looks. You can customise your chatbot to look the way you want, and in your own brand colours.

Get in touch

Capture leads while your competitors sleep.

The best way to enquire is to ask the assistant. You will experience exactly what your customers would, and your enquiry arrives with the conversation attached.

The assistant will ask for your details and send us your enquiry.

Questions

The questions people ask before they buy.

What is the difference between this and the chatbot my website already has?

Most website chatbots are scripted. Somebody writes a list of questions and the replies to them, and the widget matches what your visitor typed against that list. Ask it anything the list does not cover and it apologises, or it offers you the list again.

Yours reads your documents instead. You write what is true about your business, in your own words, and it answers from that: your prices, your opening times, what you do about dogs, the thing you would never think to script. It also knows when the answer is not in there, and says so rather than guessing, which is the part a scripted widget cannot do at all.

The rest is the service around it. We build it, we watch the first week, every enquiry reaches you with the whole conversation attached, and every week you get a summary of what people asked.

Why not just use ChatGPT myself?

You can, for yourself, and plenty of people do. But ChatGPT is a separate website and app. It is not embedded on your website, ready to answer your customers’ questions in your voice, from your business documents. NanoPorter does a different job. It sits on your website, so your customers can use it. It answers only from the documents you give it about your business and from your calendar, and when the answer is not in there, it says so. It takes the visitor’s details and emails you the whole conversation. And it is built, monitored and kept running for you, rather than being something you set up and look after yourself.

Will it sound like a robot?

Only if nobody sets the voice. The three assistants above answer the same four questions from the same engine and sound nothing like each other, because each one is given its own tone, its own rules, and its own documents.

How long does it take to set up?

We read your website and draft your first documents for you. The part that is yours is reading them: you check them, reword anything that is not how you would put it, and approve them. Nothing is used until you have. Then we build the assistant and send you a private link to try, and when you say yes it is one line on your site. After that, changes to your documents go live the next morning.

Is there a contract, and how do I get out of it?

Yes, a plain-English one, and it runs month to month. You can end it at any time with 30 days’ written notice. If we ever ended it, we would give you 90. Before your assistant goes anywhere near your website you also sign a data processing agreement with us, and when you leave, your data is returned or deleted under it.
